Dsdn 112 Project 2

I believe that making people aware of how much energy they're using and trying to make them reduce the amount they use is a very difficult thing. This is because people usually only do things that are convenient and if saving power is not made easy, interesting or fun, I don't think it can be effective.
I am interested in using social media as a way of monitoring and saving power. It is well known that facebook is a very powerful and widely used social networking site with over 750 million users, spending on average 700 billion minutes a month on facebook all together. This site seems like an obvious platform to reach a wide user base for a power monitoring and saving device. 40% of its user base is using facebook for social gaming, this aspect of facebook, i think could be used effectively for a power saving game or application.

I am going to make a facebook app that monitors individual power use with the use of a  wireless power monitoring device and promotes power saving with the use of leaderboards and facebook based rewards. My target audience is teenagers and young adults
