Research in to social media power saving

I have searched for power saving apps on facebook and could not find a single one. To make a facebook app that monitors the individual power use of appliances, a devise that relays energy wirelessly would probably be the best way to achieve this. I have found a devise called AlertMe energy monitor, which allows you to view the individual power use of appliances via Google Power Meter online. A similar kind of system could be applied to convey information to facebook and the application I am creating. I have also found this site; (http://www.electricity-monitor.com/wireless-energy-monitors-c-37.html) which has a number of different energy monitoring devices. Although I know that setting up a device to monitor energy use to use a facebook app is not very practical, I am assuming that this kind of monitoring will be much easier in the future and this kind of app would not be hard to set up.
